Carnahan, Proctor and Cross, Inc. (CPC) provided surveying and 3D laser scanning services in support of the $40 million renovation and expansion of the Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts, a landmark venue located in downtown West Palm Beach.

Working with The Weitz Company, the project focused on modernizing the center’s facilities while preserving its distinctive presence along Okeechobee Boulevard. Major improvements included expanding the glass-fronted lobby, converting the iconic entrance fountain into a stepped plaza, and adding a new valet garage on the east side. The west-side main garage was also reconfigured to improve traffic flow. These upgrades were designed to enhance guest movement and improve access, while also supporting the city’s efforts to create a more pedestrian- and bike-friendly corridor.

One of the most visible changes was the extension of the building’s glass curtain wall, which added more than 5,200 square feet to the main lobby. This additional space offers guests a larger, more comfortable area to gather before performances and during intermissions. The updated entrance plaza, which replaced the former fountain, provides a more open and inviting experience for visitors arriving from the Palm Beach County Convention Center and Marriott West Palm Beach.

To support this complex, high-traffic project, CPC used 3D laser scanning to document the building’s existing conditions, including the façade, entrance, and surrounding hardscape. This accurate and detailed data gave the design and construction teams the information needed to move forward with confidence and precision. The scanning efforts helped reduce delays and avoid surprises, which was essential for a venue that welcomes more than 500,000 visitors each year.

CPC’s work laid the foundation for successful architectural and structural enhancements while maintaining the Kravis Center’s reputation as a cultural anchor in the community.
