Florida Turnpike Enterprise Resurface and Roadside Improvements MP 178.3 Okeechobee County to MP 190.5 Indian River County
The Florida Department of Transportation/Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise (FTE) undertakes a tremendous engineering effort to increase capacity, safety and quality along the Turnpike Corridor to accommodate local and seasonal traveling public. This effort is put forth to fulfill FTE’s motto: “The Less Stressway.” As part of this effort, both sections of the Turnpike Mainline (SR-91) between MP 178.3 and MP 185.0, and MP 185.0 to MP 190.5, located in Indian River and Okeechobee counties, are being improved through resurfacing and performing roadside improvements and safety upgrades.
This $26M roadway construction project consists of milling and resurfacing, cross slope corrections, super-elevation corrections, base construction, bridge deck joint replacements and box culvert gunite spall repairs. This project also featured safety and design improvement which included drainage, shoulder gutter, guardrail, signage for the Turnpike Mainline (SR 91) from Mile Post 178.3 – 190.5 in Indian River and Okeechobee counties. The ultimate purpose is to bring better service to the traveling public by addressing concerns caused by a consistently growing rate of users of this corridor connecting the South and Central Florida areas.
