The FDOT D4 safety improvements project is located in Broward County and within the City limits of Oakland Park. Improvements included designing a new 6-ft. sidewalk from N. Dixie Hwy. to NE 12th Terrace & from NE 18th Ave. to SR-5/US-1/Federal Highway on both sides of the roadway, milling and resurfacing, and implementing ADA accessibility features in existing crosswalks, curb ramps, and detectable warning surfaces. Signing and pavement markings included upgrading the existing sub-standard signs to comply with current standards and upgrading pavement striping where it is impacted by sidewalk and roadway improvements.
Signalization & Lighting upgrades include LED lighting retrofits, pedestrian signals, and flexible signal backplates at two signalized intersections: 1) Floranada Rd at SR-811/N /N Dixie Highway, 2) Floranada Rd at SR-5/US-1/Federal Hwy. Pedestrian signalization upgrades will be completed to meet minimum standards and ADA criteria, including the installation of countdown-type signals and push buttons. Coordination with Florida East Coast Railway (FEC) was required to install a railroad (RR) pedestrian gate on the south side, where a new sidewalk is designed to cross the existing railroad tracks. A dynamic envelope is an area near railroad crossings intended to keep motorists out of the danger zone and prevent fatalities.
