Busch Gardens Tampa Bay introduced SheiKra, the first Dive Coaster in North America. Reaching a height of 200 feet and featuring a 90-degree vertical drop, the coaster quickly established itself as a milestone in thrill ride engineering. With top speeds of 70 mph, a signature Immelmann loop, and a dramatic splashdown element, SheiKra set new standards in roller coaster design. In 2007, the attraction was further enhanced with a floorless configuration, offering an even more dynamic rider experience.
CPC was engaged to perform a comprehensive 3D laser scan of SheiKra. The goal was to capture the detailed geometry of the coaster’s structure to support future maintenance, inspection, or design efforts. CPC conducted a full scan of both the exterior and accessible interior elements of the coaster. The process began with control surveying, establishing accurate horizontal and vertical reference points using published benchmarks. Our team then executed high-resolution point cloud capture, with an accuracy of ±¼ inch, using a combination of cloud-to-cloud and HDS target registration methods. The resulting dataset provides a detailed and precise 3D model of the ride’s structural features, supporting documentation, evaluation, and planning for continued operational excellence.
