CPC had the privilege of attending the monthly American Society of Engineers (ASCE) Environmental & Water Resources Institute (EWRI) 1-hour technical presentation in the Central Florida Area, and it was an enlightening experience. The distinguished speaker for the event was Dr. Harvey Harper, PE, who shared invaluable insights on “Common Errors in Selecting and Implementing BMPs in Florida.”

The significance of this topic cannot be overstated, as stormwater Best Management Practices (BMPs) are being constructed at an accelerating rate across Florida to combat nutrient pollution in lakes and surface waters. Dr. Harper’s presentation shed light on the challenges and variations in the success of these BMPs.

Dr. Harper, currently the President of Environmental Research & Design, Inc., and a former faculty member at the University of Central Florida, brought over 40 years of expertise in water quality projects related to lakes and stormwater management to the discussion. His extensive research portfolio, comprising more than 40 sponsored projects, has been instrumental in understanding the effectiveness of both traditional and innovative stormwater BMPs.

CPC greatly values the knowledge and insights gained from Dr. Harper’s presentation. We look forward to applying this knowledge to our projects and contributing to more cost effective BMP implementation. Thank you to Dr. Harvey Harper and the event organizers for this informative and thought-provoking session. We eagerly anticipate future events that continue to promote excellence in stormwater management practices.
